Monument to the 1978 World Round of the Observed Trials Here is a look at the first "point of interest" on the Saturday ride. It is located in Roaring Branch, only 6 miles into the ride. |
October 2020 Inaugural Ride
The ride started and ended in downtown Canton in the municipal parking lot. We started registration at 8:00 am and the first ride started at 10:00 am. It was an absolute perfect weather day by the way! 72 degrees not a cloud in the sky! We ended up with 57 riders.
The event was broken into 2 rides.
The riders were all given a map and a “cue sheet” showing the route, along with the route markers at all of the turns.
The morning ride left downtown Canton and went up over Lake Hill, up onto Wheelerville Mountain via Williams Hollow Road, across the mountain and the back road into Shunk. The first “Fireman's Poker Run Stop” was in Shunk where riders picked up their first card. It was set up at the motorcycle legend Ed Fishers Garage, which is a motorcycle destination in itself, where 95 year old former National Motorcycle Champion Ed Fisher lives. Ed was there to give a tour of his collection of vintage motorcycles. It was outstanding! From there we made our way East onto back roads across the mountain and down onto the Shrader Creek Road and into historic Laquin, then up over the mountain to Sun Fish Pond County Park. The Canton Lions Club served its complimentary Hotdog and Hamburgers and there was another Fireman's Poker Run Stop. Then down the mountain and backroads back into Canton. 61 miles
The afternoon ride left town at 1:30 pm and went up the South end of Armenia Mountain and across the mountain down into Covert and down the mountain into Troy. To loop back we went back up the mountain and across the East side of the mountain and back down into Canton. 42 miles
The riders were amazed! We had riders from New Jersey, Rochester, Watkins Glen, State College, Reading, Harrisburg, Scranton, Lock Haven and others and everyone was amazed at the beauty.
